PathWanderer

Follow the trail, not the plan. PathWanderer is a trail heads-up display for cyclists and hikers. There is no search bar and no turn-by-turn. Open it, start a ride or a hike, and see the paths around you, how far you are from the nearest one, and where you have been. PICK A RIDE OR A HIKE Your choice sets what the map shows. A ride shows paths you can cycle on, and a hike shows paths you can walk on. A path with no rule against bikes shows up for a ride, so you see the real network, not just the signposted routes. SEE THE TRAILS AROUND YOU • The map turns with your heading, so the way ahead is always at the top. • Paths are coloured by surface: paved, shared, unpaved and unknown. • Your route is drawn in blue as you go. • Wander more than 15 metres off a path and a dotted line shows the distance back to the nearest one. KEEP YOUR RIDES • Every ride and hike is saved on your phone with its distance and time. • Review the route on a map when you finish. • History shows your totals, and you can filter to rides or hikes. • Finishing is deliberate: hold the button for three seconds, so a stray tap never ends a ride. WORKS OFFLINE • No download needed to start. Online, the app loads the trails for wherever you are. • Every area you ride through is kept on your phone, so its trails load next time with no signal. • Before a trip, download areas ahead of time: choose Trails + map for full offline use, or Trails only for a smaller download. • With no signal at all, the ride still records your track, distance and time. MADE FOR THE TRAIL • Keeps recording with the screen locked or while you use another app. • A ride cut short by a crash or force-quit is saved when you reopen the app. • Built for low battery use on long days out. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account, no sign-in, nothing to set up. • Your routes are never uploaded. They stay on your phone. Trail data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors, shared under the Open Database Licence. PathWanderer is for cycling and walking, not driving. It shows paths, not roads, and it does not give directions.
