About this app

Apio is a pediatric anesthesia reference for use at the bedside. Enter your patient's weight and age once, and the drug doses, crisis cards, and calculators use them throughout the app. If you're covering more than one room, you can keep a separate patient for each of up to four rooms and switch between them from any screen. CRISIS CARDS AND DOSING • Weight-based crisis cards for cardiac arrest, bradycardia, tachycardia/SVT, hypoxia, hypotension, bronchospasm, anaphylaxis, malignant hyperthermia, LAST, laryngospasm, hyperkalemia, massive hemorrhage, status epilepticus, venous air embolism, tension pneumothorax, transfusion reaction, and airway and OR fire. Sources are listed on each card. • A one-page code sheet with your patient's crisis doses, airway sizes, and fluids. Print it or share it as a PDF. • A weight check that compares the entered weight with CDC growth charts for the patient's age. If the number looks like pounds entered as kilograms or a misplaced decimal, Apio offers the corrected value. • Pediatric dosing and clinical notes for every drug in the library, free. • Procedure case cards with checklists and pearls. CALCULATORS • Local anesthetic solver: log what was given for the block and see how much is left for the surgeon to infiltrate, based on published pediatric limits, with adjustments for infants. • TEG/ROTEM interpretation with age-specific reference ranges for TEG 5000, TEG 6s, and ROTEM. You can enter your institution's own ranges. • Infusion calculator: convert between dose and mL/hr for common pediatric infusions at ASHP standard concentrations. • Fluids, allowable blood loss, and ABG analysis. • Equipment sizes (ETT, LMA, oral and nasal airways, vascular access), normal vital signs, and NPO times, with your patient's row highlighted. BARK: PERIOPERATIVE RISK (Basic) Enter what you know about the patient and Bark shows the published pediatric studies that apply: what each study compared, the rates it reported, and a link to the paper. Tap "See why" on any result to see where each number comes from. Assessments can be saved and exported. TRACE: AI ASSISTANT (Premium) Ask questions about the case you've set up. Trace points out considerations specific to that patient and procedure, including how any flags you've added affect the plan. It doesn't give drug doses (use the calculators for those), and its answers should be checked like any other reference. OTHER FEATURES • Home screen with your pinned patients, favorites, and one search across drugs, tools, and protocols • Each room keeps its own Trace conversation. Rooms not used for 24 hours are cleared automatically, which you can turn off in Settings. • Choose which sections appear on the tab bar • Case cards, notes, and favorites are backed up to your iCloud Apio is an educational reference for trained healthcare professionals. It is not medical advice and does not replace clinical judgment, institutional policy, or the primary literature. Verify doses before giving them. Do not enter patient identifiers. SUBSCRIPTION Apio Basic (monthly or yearly, auto-renewing) unlocks Bark, premium calculators, and all case cards. Apio Premium (monthly or yearly, auto-renewing) includes everything in Basic plus Trace. Lifetime is a one-time purchase of Basic content and does not include Trace. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage them in your Apple Account settings. CRISIS EVENT MODE Start an event from the cardiac arrest, malignant hyperthermia, LAST, or anaphylaxis card and Apio keeps track while you work. Tap once to log each drug, shock, or rhythm check, with the dose already worked out for your patient. Timers show when the next rhythm check and epinephrine dose are due, and running totals track dantrolene, lipid, and fluids against their limits. The clock and timers stay on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. When it’s over, you get a timed debrief to share as a PDF or as text for your note. Free. TRACE IMPROVEMENTS (Premium) • Stop an answer partway through • Follow-up suggestions after each answer • Retry when a question doesn’t go through, with clearer messages when you’re offline or a question is too long • Copy or share any answer • Each room’s conversation is saved, so it’s still there after you close the app
