About this app

SLSL Dictionary is a free video dictionary of Sri Lankan Sign Language (SLSL), the sign language of the Deaf community in Sri Lanka. Search for a word, open it, and watch a video of the sign. • More than 2,300 signs and 475 everyday phrases, with over 4,400 videos • Fingerspelling for the English, Sinhala and Tamil alphabets • Every entry has its English, Sinhala and Tamil words, and the app itself is available in all three languages • Definitions, notes and related signs, plus regional variants such as the signs used in the North East • Slow a video down to follow the handshape and movement • A new sign of the day • Save signs to your own lists, and share a list with classmates or students • Revise with flashcards, sign to word or word to sign, using random or spaced-repetition review • Light and dark themes • Also on the web at app.srilankansignlanguage.org For Deaf and hard of hearing people, their families and friends, teachers, interpreters, and anyone learning Sri Lankan Sign Language. Free, with no ads, no subscriptions and no in-app purchases. Searching and browsing work offline once the dictionary has downloaded; videos stream, and the ones you have watched recently are kept on your device. The sign videos, images and definitions are provided by Nishani Shamila McCluskey and team, and are licensed under Creative Commons BY-NC-ND 4.0. New and updated entries reach the app automatically.

Syncing is lighter on the network: the app now fetches only the lists that changed, so signing in with many lists and saving signs is quicker. Sign in from Settings → Sharing and syncing to keep your lists and revision progress the same on all your devices.
