Shell Starter

Shell Starter is a programming and learning environment for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Write and run Shell scripts locally without signing up or configuring a development environment. Learn by doing 20 free lessons cover commands, variables, input, conditions, loops, functions, arguments, pipelines and file reports. Read explanations, edit exercises and check results locally. Drafts and learning progress stay on the device. A local Shell workspace Edit multiple script files, load helpers with . ./lib.sh, provide preset or interactive input, and view streaming output. Stop scripts or send EOF. Successful runs save generated UTF-8 files in the project's data folder; source files remain read-only to running scripts. Reference and reading Includes 36 reference entries and six Explore articles, with Chinese, English and Japanese content. Search bundled learning material on the device. Free use and optional IDE Pro One editable default workspace and all basic lessons are free. IDE Pro is an optional one-time purchase for multiple local projects and project duplication. No subscription. Restore with the same Apple Account. Runtime scope Uses a bundled Go/Wasm mvdan/sh interpreter with a POSIX Shell subset and limited commands including cat, sort, grep, wc -l, mkdir and sleep. It is not a full Bash or system terminal. SSH, network commands, arbitrary system programs, background jobs, process substitution, export and readonly declarations are not supported. Runs are limited to 10 seconds, with input, output and file limits. Keep backups of important projects.
