About this app
Learn to hear the difference between a cow, a bull and a calf. Älglock is a sound library of moose calls: ten calls and 86 recordings, each one described and sorted by the situation it belongs to. You pick a situation, and the app shows which call belongs there, how long people usually wait, and what usually follows. Or you go straight into the library and choose yourself. The calls are grouped by animal and labelled with what they are for. Save favourites to find your way back. TEST WHETHER YOU CAN HEAR IT The app plays a call and you choose which of four it was. Ten questions, one per call, and the recording is drawn at random from within the call — the same question does not sound the same next time. Your best result is kept. It is built for the waiting. Sitting in a tower with headphones, learning the difference between two cow calls, is a better use of the silence than playing them out loud. SEVERAL RECORDINGS OF THE SAME CALL Most calls have several interchangeable recordings, and the player draws a different one each time. A real cow never makes the same sound twice. Every recording sits at the same measured loudness, so no clip is suddenly twice as loud as the last. THREE DISPLAY MODES Forest for dawn and dusk. Daylight, black on white, for glare and sun. Night, red on black, which preserves your dark adaptation — white light costs you twenty to thirty minutes of it. FOUR LANGUAGES Swedish, English, Norwegian and Finnish. The app follows your phone's language, or you choose one yourself. IT WORKS WHERE THE SIGNAL DOES NOT Every sound is on the phone. Nothing is downloaded, and nothing stops working because you walked down into a valley. NO ACCOUNT, NO ADVERTISING, NO TRACKING No sign-in and no purchases inside the app. There is not a single outbound call in it — no analytics, no telemetry. It never asks for the microphone: it plays sound, it does not listen. Favourites and settings stay on the device. A SINGLE PURCHASE You pay once. No subscription. ABOUT THE SOUNDS Most of the recordings were produced digitally rather than recorded in the field. The app says so itself under Help. Älglock is an aid and a decision support, not hunting instruction. It does not claim to know what the moose is doing. Animal behaviour varies, and a response to any given call can never be guaranteed. How and where you use the app is your own responsibility.
